Jane Townsley (UK) is a retired senior police officer with over 30 years’ policing experience in the UK. Since retirement, she has established her consultancy specializing in capacity building for gender-responsive policing and service delivery to local communities. and a focus on the empowerment of women in policing. She is the co-author of the UN Women Global Handbook on Gender-responsive Policing Services for Women and Girls Subject to Violence and provides technical advice and training on the implementation of Gender Responsive Policing and Gender Responsive Service delivery by Justice and Security Sectors on behalf of UN Women and UNODC and other international organisations.

 

Janes extensive CV includes work spanning Iceland, South Africa, Tanzania, Ukraine, Georgia Kosovo, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Jordan, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Europe and the Five Eyes nations.  

 

Jane has a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Security, Conflict & International Development during which she carried out research into the impact of Gender Responsive Policing on women officers, police organisations and local communities. She has also co-authored an academic paper, ‘Risks versus Transformational Opportunities in Gender-Responsive Security Sector Reform’ and a chapter focusing on women in the book, ‘Culture, Diversity and Criminal Justice’.
