Today, we honour the women who put on the uniform every day to protect and serve our communities. Their resilience, empathy, and tactical excellence are not just assets to the force, they are essential to the future of policing.

We remain committed to supporting the women of GCG as they break barriers, lead with integrity, and inspire the next generation of public safety professionals. To those on the front lines and those leading the way behind the scenes: we thank you for your service.

Let's hear from just a couple of our members who are working to shape a brighter future for women.

Jane Townsley

Jane is an internationally recognised expert in advancing women's leadership and gender equality in policing. During her policing career, she played an active role in developing and implementing the UK Policing Gender Agenda, helping transform the role and opportunities for women within the service.

She represented women's perspectives on key committees and worked nationally with the British Association for Women in Policing and internationally through the International Association of Women Police (IAWP), where she served for over 24 years, including six years as President. Following her retirement from policing in 2013, she received the BAWP Lifetime Achievement Award. Jane has since built over a decade of global experience advising governments, police organisations and international agencies on gender-responsive policing, leadership development and responses to gender-based violence, delivering training, policy advice and practical tools to strengthen women's participation and leadership in law enforcement.

“I have been fortunate to benefit from many opportunities throughout my policing career, during my involvement with IAWP and subsequently as a consultant. These have enabled me to not only share some of my ‘lived’ experiences and learning for the benefit of others, many of whom have fewer opportunities or resources compared to those I have enjoyed, but also to learn from others and experience many diverse cultures. I believe that celebrating International Women's Day is important to recognise the commitment and resilience of women in policing globally, who despite on-going challenges, continue to serve their communities diligently improving access to justice for all. This is particularly pertinent this year, with the 2026 theme being Rights. Justice. Action. For all women and girls.”

Kylie Rendina

Kylie has recently farewelled a career in the Australian Border Force as a long-serving Assistant Commissioner. Throughout her career, Kylie has demonstrably shown that kindness, integrity and courage delivers results even in complex operations and projects. Most recently, Kylie led significant culture reform emphasising safe and gender-friendly workplaces, especially in the maritime domain.

With a career spanning law enforcement, technology and government, and prior service as a Federal Agent with the AFP, Kylie brings deep expertise in building culture and capability to prepare law enforcement organisations for the future. Beyond her professional role, Kylie is a mother of two, a passionate advocate for social justice, and, as a committed volunteer and board director, also leads in the community to advance gender equality and end violence against women and children.

As a leader, my accountability is to listen to, and observe the workforce, community, partners and clients — and turn that insight into action and change where people can feel safe and included.
