Rob Delaney retired from Australian Government service in 2019 after 32 years, including as First Assistant Director-General at the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department and founding Executive Director of the Australian Counter Terrorism Centre. He was President of the Leadership in Counter Terrorism Alumni Association (LinCT-AA) in 2011 – 2012 and continues as its Executive Director for Australia/New Zealand, and was awarded the Australian Security Medal in 2021.
Rob's 32-year Australian Government career spanned senior national security roles, including leadership positions across the Joint Counter Terrorism Teams and, ultimately, First Assistant Director-General at the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department. In 2015 he became the founding Executive Director of the Australian Counter Terrorism Centre, a role he held until his retirement in 2019.
Since retiring, Rob has consulted on leadership and governance, and on major event and infrastructure security planning. He remains closely involved with LinCT-AA, having served as its President in 2011 – 2012 and now serving as its Executive Director for Australia/New Zealand. In 2021 he was awarded the Australian Security Medal.
